Breaking the silence... [Aug. 20th, 2006|12:33 pm]

Where's the best place to read about the elimination of Western?

My alumni magazine gives me a link for Garland's rationale and the review process, and the previous entry has a link to the MUOHIO news on it from the first proposal, but I'm sure there's more out there.

For those that have not seen or heard about this before, the following link is about what the university wants to do with the Western Program.

[music |They Might Be Giants - Ana Ng]

Those of you living in dorms may remember that during Finals Week (and, especially, the hectic move-out days of Thursday & Friday), there are no recycling pickups and the recycling bins are transformed into trash bins.

Finals week is next week.  So, this is a friendly reminder:  get all of your recyclables deposited before the recycling bins go bye-bye!  ESPECIALLY those of us in McKee, since we won the recycling competition and all.

hey, im considering attending miami in the fall, but i haven't been able to visit yet so i figured this would be a good way to get some feedback on the school. i'm from new york city so im used to being friends with and dating lots of different kinds of people and am pretty open-minded about everything. i know miami u has a reputation for being quite homogenous, but is it really that overwhelming? im sure im going to sound like a silly incoming freshman in saying this, but i was going through some college guides and one mentioned that interracial couples were 'frowned upon' by a large part of the student body-- is it true? what's the school like in terms of the academics/social scene/people/location/campus&dorm life etc.? have you found the miami plan to be more beneficial or more annoying than anything else?

sorry for all the questions... but any advice you can give would be greatlyy appreciated =)

hey westerners ... any seniors know if its alright to take a focus hour class second semester of senior year? i know youre not supposed to, but i guess australians don't like putting on the best class descriptions and i'm miserable in this chem class i have here. if i drop it though i'd have to take one second semester, and i know that's not good. but is it allowed and just frowned upon or am i screwed??
thanks for the help!

and ps i'm thinking warm thoughts for you all in sunny, 85 degree every single day brisbane :) stay warm!

Outing Myself [Oct. 20th, 2004|02:35 pm]

So, check out the latest few posts on thewhiteboard (I just typoed that as "thewhineboard," hellllloooo Freudian fingers). I don't know how to make a link to that LJ community automatically, sorry dudes.

Anyway, there have been a few "is this prof any good???" and "MAKE YOUR PROFESSORS ACCOUNTABLE" posts which have annoyed me. And I responded to them, outing myself as a Miami faculty member.

Do you guys think that my posting to that community was a mistake? Is it better that I just lurk, reading these publically-accessible LiveJournal communities, or is it inappropriate for me to speak up? I find it extremely tiresome to see all of this skulking around, backhanded "let's get so-and-so FIRED" or "avoid so-and-so's classes because he makes you THINK!"

The way I look at it, if they didn't want the community to include Miami faculty as well as students, they should have made it a private community and screened people. And, if now that I've made it clear that I'm not a student they want me off of it, they should just kick me off. Perhaps I'm over-analyzing, I don't know.

Opinions?

P.S. I checked out ratemyprofessors.com and, of the Western faculty, only saw entries for Keller and Perlin.
